The Tombstone and Arizona Territory Collection

Tombstone, Arizona: Bank Draft Signed by Tombstone Theater Owner. A Cochise County Ban draft, 7.25" x 3", "No. 14", dated April 9, 1889, for the amount of $100.00 payable to "Bearer" and signed by J. W. Bignon. The back of the check bears the signature of S. C Bagg and a stamp, in red ink, of the Bank of Tombstone. Joseph W. "Joe" Bignon (1840-1925) was born in Canada and settled in the United States in 1876. He arrived in Tombstone three years later, in 1879, where he opened the Theater Comique. Bignon later acquired the Bird Cage Theater, which he renamed the Elite. He and his wife Minnie left Tombstone in 1895 and moved to Pearce, Arizona, when gold was struck there. He died in Pearce at the age of 85. Stanley C. Bagg was born in Detroit and arrived in Tombstone sometime in the 1880s, becoming a successful businessman as well as editor of the Tombstone Prospector and the Tombstone Epitaph. The draft is accompanied by a photographic print of Bignon. Bignon signature is uncommon. The draft has three vertical folds and minor glue residue of the back. The document also has a tear in the middle and two small holes on the left hand edge. Otherwise the check is in good condition.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
