Tombstone, Arizona: Attachment for Contempt of Court, 1885. The Attachment for Contempt Document, 8.5" x 7", and dated October 21, 1885, was issued for Henry Johnson for failing to appear in the County Court of Cochise County, Arizona Territory. The printed form, on County Court of the County of Cochise letterhead, is filled in with ink and stamped with the seal of the county court. On the back side of this legal document, Cochise County Sheriff R. S. Hatch wrote this statement: "I hereby certify that by virtue of the within attachment by me received on the 21st day of Oct. 1885, I have served the same, on this 21st day of Oct. 1885, on Henry Johnson, and herewith bring his body before the Hon. County Court, as I am within commanded." Robert S. Hatch (1841-1904) served in the Union army during the Civil War and arrived in Tombstone in 1880. He served as sheriff of Cochise County from 1883 to 1886. He is noted for playing pool with one of Wyatt Earp's brothers, Morgan Earp, on March 18, 1882, when the latter was shot and killed in the Tombstone saloon owned by Hatch. The document has a center horizontal fold which is weak and held together by scotch tape, without affecting text, and has lost a minor half inch piece from the lower left hand corner. Otherwise the document is in good condition.
