Tombstone, Arizona: An Early Informal Mining Contract. ALS by O. L. Bashford, Tombstone, Arizona Territory, agreeing to "sink or dig a shaft 4 x 6 60 feet in depth on the Sea Surge Mine for the consideration of Eight dollars per linear foot. Half of the amount per foot to be paid at the end of each and every ten lineal feet completed." The document, 8" x 10," is written on the letterhead of J. J. McClelland, Fine Liquors and Cigars, 506 Allen Street, Tombstone and states that the contract he signed "may be terminated at the option of J. J. McClelland and John Lang when ten feet are completed."

O.L. Bashford was in the saloon business in Tombstone and would have known J. J. McClelland. John Jovian McClelland, a former Confederate soldier, was a Kentucky liquor salesman who moved in the early 1880s to Tombstone, where he became a prominent businessman in the liquor business as well as in mining. He served for a time as president of the Gift of Gold Mining and Milling Company. He died at his ranch near Tombstone on September 13, 1913 at the age of 73. A fine example of an informal mining contract in the early days of the mining boom in Tombstone. The document has three horizontal folds but otherwise it is in good condition.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
