THE PIRATES VS. BAINBRIDGE. Through the course of WWII, there were innumerable military training facilities scattered across the country, and many of them were virtual cities.  One such was located in Bainbridge, Maryland.  And late in the 1945 season, the Pittsburgh Pirates interrupted their schedule to challenge the mustered talent then stationed at that naval center.  As evidenced by this offered scorecard, we assume that a game was played between that Major League franchise and a squad of selected sailors.  We're particularly intrigued by the date of this event, August 7, 1945.  Hours earlier, the first atomic device was detonated over Hiroshima, and it may be imagined that suddenly, there was a joyous relief in Bainbridge (as elsewhere) that a more important victory was now imminent.  We don't know how this game progressed, because it's unscored.  For that matter, the 7" x 8 1/2" fold-over is in NM condition, and presents team photos of both sides.  We note that of the 17 rostered players for Bainbridge, 11 of them had, or would later enjoy, Major League tenure.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
