The Pennsylvania Gazette and Weekly Advertiser (Philadelphia) August 22, 1781 General's Cornwallis and Lafayette. 4 pp., 9 3/4" x 16 3/4", roughness at left edge, separated, else fine. This American Revolutionary War newspaper contains very long and detailed coverage of British General Cornwallis and American General Lafayette facing off against each other just before the BATTLE OF YORKTOWN, VA. There is also news of the French Navy under Admiral DeGrasse heading to the Chesapeake Bay (MD) in order to trap the British Army on the York (VA) Peninsula. This newspaper coverage "sets the stage" for the decisive SIEGE OF YORKTOWN that turned the tide in the American War of Independence and forced the British to recognize America's Independence. A very scarce issue.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
