T206 TY COBB. Certainly by premeditation, the designers of the production we know as T206 provided four different presentations of Ty Cobb. Through the three years of the issue’s distribution, Cobb was in his mid-twenties and the undisputed master of his element. Of those four varieties, this 254 one is the most recognizable. Even those who breeze past our industry immediately identify this benchmark, red-background portrait. The one presented here is technically VG/EX due to mildly worn corners and a minor border chip on the reverse. Noticeably, but not prohibitively, its centering is partial toward the left. Thereafter, we admire this card for a positively clean surface. But its most remarkable virtue is in the absolute register of his image. A better focused Cobb portrait in this issue doesn’t exist. As a standard Sweet Caporal, the reverse is likewise clean, and centered to correspond to the front. Setting aside its minor objections, this card projects one of the finest renderings of Cobb available in T206.
