    S[amuel] Augustus Mitchell. Accompaniment to Mitchell's New Map of Texas, Oregon, and California, With the Regions Adjoining.
    Philadelphia: S. Augustus Mitchell, 1846. 24mo. 46pp. Text and one large 20.5" x 22.5" hand-colored folding map of the western half of the United States.

    Original decoratively embossed green calf portfolio with titles stamped in gilt on the front board. Brass clasp. Back joint split and tender, else light wear to boards at the extremities. Map with a few small splits in the folds, else bright. Former owner's book plate on the front pastedown. Taken in total a near fine map in a good original binding.

    An important western map, with accompanying text that details the western portion of the U.S. to the Pacific, with the Indian Territory, Missouri Territory, Iowa, and portions of the states of Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Wisconsin, as well as northern Mexico and part of British Columbia. The text describes each territory or state in turn with references to Lewis and Clark, John Frémont and other early explorers.
