Remarkable, Nearly Day by Day, Account of the Major Portion of the War of 1812 [War of 1812]. Bound Volume of Pennsylvania Republican . Over 100 issues of the Pennsylvania Republican newspaper, published in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on a weekly basis, in period binding. First issue, December 7, 1813, and final issue November 28, 1815. 11 1/4" X 18" with each issue being at least two full pages front and back. Binding is unsound, with cracked spine and dis-bound top board. Trimmed, with heavy chipping to first few issues; dampstaining and foxing throughout. A virtual wealth of unique information, with numerous letters, published every week, from soldiers/ officers, with first person accounts of combat action, in not only the War's major actions but also smaller actions, camp life, troop movements, etc., along with their broad spectrum reporting on the War. Interesting perspective on the country continuing to function normally, with a war raging within its borders. Lots of fascinating advertising along with news of political activities and other noteworthy occurrences in the area and the nation. Superb "document" providing not only a remarkable insight into not only the War, but the business of living in the midst of it. Doubtless more comprehensive and detailed than any book published on the subject.
