Presentation Copy of Mosby's Rangers by James J. Williamson with a Mosby Clipped Signature. New York: Ralph B. Kenyon, 1896. Inscribed on a 5.25" x 8.75" sheet of paper: "James E. Taylor with the compliments of the Author and the Publisher March 27, 1896." Below the inscription is a newspaper clipping regarding the publishing of the book. 8vo, 510 pages. Blue cloth over boards with titles and decoration in gilt. Blindstamp decoration on rear board. Overall toning. Boards show moderate wear and soiling.

Affixed to page xii is a 3" x .75" clipped signature of Mosby. Also affixed to the blank page between pages 40 and 41 is a 3" x 4.75" tintype of Union General Edwin H. Stoughton. In addition, several newspaper clippings and a photograph are attached to the pages with small notations scattered throughout the book.

More Information: James E. Taylor, to whom the copy is presented, provided some of the illustrations found within.  He was also a former Union soldier who served in the 10th New York. Author Williamson mentions both Taylor and Charles Hall, who also contributed to the images in the book, saying they "...were both in the ranks of the Federal army, but...have since proved my warm friends and earnest helpers."  Enemies in war; in peace, friends."
