    Description

POST-WAR UNUSED TOUR TICKET. The United States has practiced cultural exchange with Japan, through the medium of baseball, since the days of Albert Spalding.  And that island nation has a heritage of the pastime that now spans many generations.  Of course, World War II injured this relationship, and Americans were not immediate in extending forgiveness.  However, by 1949, our Pacific Coast League's spiritual leader, Lefty O'Doul, engineered a goodwill tour to Japan.  There he showcased his San Francisco Seals - evidently for a brief schedule of games.  Such a gesture was inevitable, but it was this tour that helped to thaw relations. (Gen. MacArthur applauded the tour as pivotal in restoring diplomacy.)  A ticket from that journey is presented here.  It's unused, NM/MT, and it divulges its secrets stubbornly.  Boldly indicated as "1," we might assume that this was the first game on that tour.  The diamond combatants that day pitted the Seals against the "FEAF All Stars," which likely stands for "Far East Armed Forces."  And finally, the tilt took place in "Stateside Park" which could be a stopover in Hawaii, but it's a perfect name for a military baseball field far from home in a foreign land.  And finally, it's rational and appropriate that the tour's initial game should recognize our troops first.
