Photograph: Ulysses S. Grant and His Horse, Cincinnati. The image, measuring 4" x 2.75", is affixed to an oversized Mathew Brady mount to an overall size of 10" x 8". Grant is seen standing in uniform to the right of his favorite horse, Cincinnati, a gift from an admirer. Cincinnati was the son of the famous thoroughbred, Lexington. A pencil inscription on the verso identifies the pair as "Gen Grant and Mount Cincinnatus." Corners of the mount are rounded. Moderate discoloration around the edges, which also exhibit some chipping (at the left and lower edges) and five small cracks, not exceeding .75" in length. Both the image and mount show scattered foxing. Slight staining of the image's right edge appears to be from water.
