    Philadelphia Deed Mentions Former Governor William Penn, Manuscript document on vellum, one page with verso docketing, 27.5" x 18.5", Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, May 18, 1738. This large Pennsylvania land deed is penned in precise calligraphy as was the custom for important legal documents of the day. The deed, between Andrew Edge and Jacob Saltzer, concerns 500 acres originally belonging to William Penn, 17th century founder of the colony. Before going into a physical description of the property, this document recounts the land's legal history. It reads in small part, " Whereas William Penn the Proprietarie and Governor in Chief of this Province by the name of William Penn of Worminghurst in the County of Sussex Esq'r by the Indenture of Release of the twenty fourth of September 1681 did grant release and confirm the Quantity of five hundred acres of land to be allotted in the said Province unto Nathaniel Evans of Barton Regis in the County Glocester Freemason paying unto the said William Penn and his Heirs the yearly rent of one shilling P(er) hundred acres...". This document is signed by Edge for himself and his wife, Mary. Light soiling per usual. else Very Fine condition. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
