Original "Denison, Grayson County, Texas 1891" Bird's-Eye View Map. 33.5" x 21". Drawn by T. M. Fowler, Morrisville, PA. Published by T. M. Fowler and James B. Moyer. On January 11, 1891, Denison's The Sunday Gazetteer reported that artist Thaddeus Fowler had been in the city for several weeks making pencil sketches for a new bird's-eye view. Fowler's map captures the seemingly prosperous city from approximately northwest looking to the southeast. Fowler's attention to detail is remarkable and he seems to have illustrated every house, church, school and business in the city. Inset at the bottom of the map are more detailed views of several important local residences and businesses including the State National Bank of Denison, National Commercial College of Denison, the Denison cotton mill, and Denison's Exposition Hall among others. The paper on this example has uniformly toned as is common with paper from this period and there is some trivial wrinkling. An 8.25" tear exists vertically from the lower right edge. There is some slight chipping along the edges with a small portion of the upper right corner missing, though once framed the loss would not be noticeable. Overall, the map is in very good condition.
