Oliver H. Wheeler Archive. Fourteen items, all but two being promissory notes and/or receipts for payment of said notes. Brother of Orlando Wheeler, one of the men from Burke's company that was killed in the Fannin Massacre at Goliad, Oliver H. Wheeler was described by Texas Declaration of Independence signer and judge Jesse Grimes as "an educated drunken beast living in this county who is frequently plaguing me to obtain information for him ... respecting a claim he has in Texas. His story is [that he] had a brother in the Texas service that was killed in Fauning's [sic] massacre who was, for his military service, entitled to a large quantity of land... he is without family or means and I might add ... wholly worthless." Included in the lot are invoices/IOUs for blacksmith work, room and board for him and his horse, tavern bills, and more. Lot also includes a tract printed by "H.M. Trueheart & Co., General Land Agents, Galveston, Texas,"providing general information about Texas. Items range in condition from very good to very fine. Prospective buyers are advised to view this lot carefully prior to bidding.
