Bound Volume I of The Liberator, Published by William Lloyd Garrison and Isaac Knapp. Issues 1, 2, and 4 through 52 are present. 10.75" x 15.5", issues are printed on a weekly basis throughout the year 1831. Published in Boston, Massachusetts. Excellent content throughout on all topics related to slavery, emancipation and the American Colonization Society. Issue 20 is notably mentioned, as it contains excerpts and discussion of David Walker's Appeal in Four Articles. Walker was considered a radical, and died suddenly in 1830, the year before this issue is printed. Early issues of The Liberator are scarce, with individual issues typically selling in the low to mid-hundreds each.

Condition: Issues 1, 2, 4, and 5 are disbound and have heavy wear, creasing, and chipping at margins. Issue 52 also has condition issues, including loss of about 2" of the bottom affecting much text. Most interior issues are intact, with toning varying with issues. Some intermittent dampstaining, but overall condition of interior issues is very good to near fine. Contemporary boards have heavy wear, and spine is cracked and lacking leather at top.
