    Description

[Union Occupation]. Newspaper: Our Old Flag. Four pages, 11.5" x 16", May 24, 1862, first issue, printed in Franklin, Tennessee. Filled with pro-Union sentiment, including a diatribe espousing sustaining the Union, even "if it shall require 'coercion,' or 'subjugation,' or what is worse, the annihilation of the rebel population of the land!" Features a comedic piece making light of a soldier dreading guard duty, loving liquor, and engaging in general tomfoolery.

Condition: Very fragile, with spots of marked foxing throughout. Ink is faded, but legible. Some paper loss around the edges, not affecting the text, but the deep folds have caused some holes, and has caused the first page to tear in half.
