    Description

[Reconstruction]. Newspaper: The Carpet Bagger, Vol. 1, No. 94. July 4, 1870. 4 pages, 16.5" x 11.5". Although the masthead lists that this is issue No. 94, it is likely that this is the only issue ever produced. An editorial on page 2 points out that the paper is being issued on the 94th anniversary of the independence of United States. Most articles have to do with redefining the pejorative meaning of the term "carpetbagger". No auction records or listings in OCLC.

    Condition:
Some separations occurring at folds, with reinforcements at edges. Some chipping at margins and bits of paper loss occurring at intersecting folds. Uneven toning, and light dampstaining.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
