Newspaper: 1793 Edition of The Boston Gazette and Country Journal . Four pages, 10.5" x 16.5", Boston, December 30, 1793, uniformly toned, tatty along the edges, folds, minor flaws including closed tears, mounting remnants along the right verso edge, else very good condition. This issue might well be classified as "all things Indian" as the vast majority of the paper concerns Indians and Indian affairs.

    More Information:

A particularly interesting article on the front page titled "Origins of Scalping" traces the practice back to the ancient Scythians through the more recent past. Of particular interest is a notice on the back page placed by Benjamin Franklin's grandson W. T. Franklin, who warns that "a publication purporting to be the works of the late Dr. Benjamin Franklin, and his Life written by Himself - As it is possible the public may be deceived thereby, supposing it to be the genuine Life and Works of Dr. Franklin, left me as a legacy in his will, & which, in consequence I alone am possessed of, I think it a duty I owe to the Public, as well as to the reputation of my late grandfather, thus openly to declare, that I have no concern whatever in the publication above mentioned."
