Newspaper: 1786 Edition of The Massachusetts Centinel Announcing the Establishment the United States Mint. Four pages, 9" x 14", [Boston], November 15, 1786, Number 17, Volume VI, slightly toned, with a trivial old tape repair on the inside central crease, else fine. This important edition contains news from Philadelphia, dated October 8, announcing Congress's establishment of a mint.

    More Information:

It reads in part: "The ordinance of Congress for the establishment of a mint for the United States, was this day read in the Assembly. Had this measure been adopted at an earlier date, immediately after the war, before the destructive rage of importation had actually drained this country of its specie, it would have been more honourable [sic], profitable, and useful. However, agreeably to the old adage, it is better late than never." In addition to this historic announcement is an article titled "An Account of the Vices peculiar to the Savages of North America".
