    New Mexico: Collection of Cattle Ranching Ephemera. Nice collection related to cattle brands and the day-to-day operations of the cattle business in the Southwest. Many of these relate to the Anderson Cattle Company which had ties to John Chisum. 1) 5.5" x 6.5" mounted photograph of three cowboys with a herd of cattle on a tree-denuded hillside (verso has parts of a Snider Live Stock Company receipt from 1884 affixed). 2) 8.5" x 3.75" slip of paper with five cattle brands drawn and number of calves branded using each design. 3) 8.25" x 4.5" letter showing various cattle brands and number of calves branded. 4) 8" x 5" document tallying the number of cattle driven by three cowboys for four different cattle companies, totaling over 6,000 head. 5) 8" x 6" document depicting five cattle brands used for Mr. James Sutherland's holdings. 6) 7.5" x 12" legal document dated May 4, 1885 for the construction of adobes for the account of the Anderson Cattle Company. 7) 8.5" x 12.5" document on legal paper showing cattle brands and listing supplies purchased on behalf of various cattle companies. 8) 8" x 7.5" letter to James Sutherland depicting four different cattle brand designs used on calves ("I have worked the mountains since I saw you"). Some separation at folds with two tape repairs. 9) 1884 receipt from Andy J. Snider Live Stock Company of Kansas City to the Anderson Cattle Company for 401 head of cattle. 10) 8" x 11" receipt from Charles Ilfield of Las Vegas, N.M. for supplies purchased by cattleman J. C. Lea, transported to Roswell. 11) 8.5" x 11" document from Milne & Bush Land and Cattle Company of Roswell to James Sutherland, showing two cattle brands, how many head were branded, where and by whom.
