    Description

MIKADO’S JAPANESE BASEBALL TEAM. Baseball, as an appreciated institution in Japan, took root much earlier than commonly acknowledged. This twopage typed (and unsigned) letter was dispatched in March 1908 to an American ball club in Edwardsville, Illinois. The letter was advanced by a Japanese promoter (one Tozan T. Masko) living in Denver, and solicits a playing date(s) to showcase his touring Japanese team. The letter declares the abilities of this touring nine, and proposes – rather forcefully – the terms of such an engagement. Preprinted on the reverse of both sheets are the principal terms of the proposal. "We positively will not admit free of charge…relatives…magnates… stockholders…" Both pages are neatly compacted, and remain EX/MT. The envelope is technically Good with unrelated pencil notations on the reverse.
