Description

Map: Plan of Matagorda and Lavaca Bay, by Fisher Ames Fisher, 22.5" x 17.5", ca. 1840s. The map is accompanied by Fisher's will, addressed to his "Dear wife and Children" and dated July 1, 1886, from Brooklyn. Fisher might have been related to Samuel Rhoads Fisher, the secretary of the Texas Navy during President Sam Houston's term. S. Rhoads Fisher lived in Matagorda and is known to have signed at least one manuscript map of the town of Matagorda, ca. 1835. This rare map has some separation at folds. The edges are worn and slightly soiled.
