    [Mexican War]. Map: "Seat of War & Battles." New York: Ensigns & Thayer, 1847. Measuring 21" x 29" (sight), this hand-colored map is derived from a larger, earlier map by Ensigns & Thayer and features the states of Mexico. South Texas is seen at upper right.

    Surrounding the map are eleven engraved vignettes featuring portraits of American Generals Winfield Scott and Zachary Taylor, with short biographies of their respective military careers directly below, and Mexican Generals Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna and Pedro de Ampudia, battle scenes from the Battle of Churubusco, the Battle of Buena Vista, and the capture of General Rómulo Díaz de la Vega at the Battle of Resaca de la Palma, the Battle of Monterrey, and the city of Vera Cruz and Castle San Juan de Ulloa. Also, a short "Outline History of the Mexican War" and short descriptions of the Battles of Palo Alto, Resaca de la Palma, Buena Vista, Monterrey, Vera Cruz, Cerro Gordo, Contreras, and Churubusco. Surrounded by a decorative border featuring patriotic themes.

    Light staining at the upper edge, especially at the corners. Scattered areas of foxing. Matted and framed to an overall size of 25.75" x 33.5".
