Manuscript Map of the Battle of Chancellorsville Showing the Position of the 11th Corps Moments Before "Stonewall" Jackson's Attack. On oil cloth, 15" x 10.25". Undated, but contemporary to the events represented. Caption at bottom reads: "Chancellorsville Position of 11th Corps at 5:30PM May 2, 1863." Executed in great detail, capturing the dense foliage, roads, and structures; the map maker includes the locations of all the Union regiments present. At left are the Confederate forces led by Robert E. Lee and A.P. Hill. "Stonewall" Jackson's "line of march" is denoted at right. Jackson's troops would begin their attack at 6:00PM and would successfully rout the 11th Corps, causing them to fall back. Although the Confederates would win this battle, it came with a heavy price as General Jackson was mortally wounded this very day by his own picket line.

Condition: Flattened folds, with good color. A bit of soiling throughout, heavier along left side.
