MANTLE-MARIS AUTOGRAPHS. The publicity was deafening.  As the American League's 1961 season progressed, the pennant race got page-2 headlines, while the big story in New York was the home run duel, now in earnest, between Mantle and Maris.  Innumerable articles and illustrations attended the thrill, but few (if any) are more glorious than this newspaper photo.  One admiring fan cut this image (very responsibly) from the sports section, and captured the autographs of these two titans.  The medium measures about 5 1/2" x 6 1/4".  The Mantle signature (which was likely placed at a later date) appears to be in fine felt tip, and is "10" in quality.  The Maris autograph is ballpoint (personalized to "Rae") and is likewise "10."  We assume that it was that fan who neatly notated the date "10-2-61" just above the newspaper caption.  LOA Spence/Grad, PSA/DNA.
