    Description

M101-2 JOE JACKSON. Over a five year span, that venerated periodical, The Sporting News, provided readers with a full-page photo insert of popular ballplayers.  Today, one of the most coveted of these is that of Joe Jackson, who appeared in the March 23, 1911 issue of the weekly.  We now present that rendering.  It is in apparent EX+ condition, and qualified by two considerations:  Two very short tears appear from the left border, which have been repaired on the reverse by small pieces of transparent tape; and though the dimensions, as issued, were somewhat inconsistent, it's likely that this piece has been trimmed to 9 5/8" x 7 1/2".  Against that backdrop, this one is a beauty.  Of particular note is Jackson's appearance at that date.  He was entering his fourth year in the big leagues, and hadn't yet demonstrated his talent.  1913, however, was his 'breakout' year, as he announced his arrival with a convincing.408 season average.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
