    More Information:

Philadelphia's Public Ledger newspaper was published from 1836 through 1942. These five issues, the first dated only thirty-three days after Lincoln's assassination, chronicle much of the assassination conspirators' trial, which quickly followed the president's assassination. Testimony in the trial began on May 12; verdicts were read on June 30; and the conspirators were hung on July 7. These newspapers also contain news on the end of the Civil War. All issues are four pages and individually dated May 17, 1865; May 18, 1865; May 19, 1865; May 26, 1865; and June 8, 1865.
