John Wesley Hardin: Business Card of Famous Gunfighter. Business card of "John Wesley Hardin, Esq. Attorney at Law," The card, printed circa 1894-1995, 3" x 2," includes Hardin's office address at "2001/2 El Paso, Wells Fargo Bldg.", and states that he practices "in all courts." Card is accompanied by a copy of a typed letter, 8.5" x 10 7/8,"signed in ink by Robert E. McNellis, certifying that the card is authentic and describing how he obtained a set of these cards. John Wesley Hardin (1853-1895) was one of the West's most notorious outlaws, with many murders attributed to him. In 1877, he was sentenced to twenty-five years in prison for murder. He studied law while in prison and when he released in 1894, after serving only seventeen years of his sentence, he resided in Gonzales, Texas, was pardoned, and passed the Texas bar examination to practice law. After practicing law for short time in El Paso, Hardin was shot and killed on the evening of August 19, 1895 by the father of El Paso lawman John Selman, Jr. because Harding had physically beaten his son. A nice John Wesley Hardin item. The card is in excellent condition.
