    John Neill Medical Collection including: John Neill Signed Medical Diploma. Measuring 14.25" x 16.75" on partially-printed vellum, Philadelphia, April 1, 1847, the diploma from the Philadelphia Medical Institute certifies that "John Howlett of Virginia has attended a full course in the Philadelphia Medical Institute." It is signed by John Neill as Lecturer on Anatomy. Countersigned by John J. Reese and N. D. Benedict. Features an engraved portrait bust of founder N. Chapman by J. B. Longacre. Some wrinkling and separating on the vertical fold. Light toning along the edges and folds. [and:] Nineteenth Century Scalpel. A fixed-blade, wood handled scalpel belonging to Dr. John Neill. Blade is rusted, but wood handle is in nice condition. [and:] Tortoise-shell Lancet Case. Beautiful, authentic tortoise-shell case with small, metal lancet. Enclosed is a small card of provenance which reads: "Old Lancet case which belonged to the first Dr. John Neill then to Dr. Henry Neill then to Dr. John Neill & after my death to be given to [obscured] Neill's brother, John Neill. Patty D. Neill June 8, 1908."
