Collection of Significant Memorabilia, Including Secret Service Lapel Pins

John F. Kennedy: Presidential Trips Abroad Collection, 1961-1963. President John F. Kennedy made several diplomatic trips abroad. Featured here are six items from some of those travels, all in fine condition.

(1-3) Three Secret Service cloisonné enameled lapel pins, approximately .5". To identify themselves, members of the Secret Service wear lapel pins based on their assignment. Three such pins from presidential trips: (1) One pin featured here was for a trip to Canada in May 1961 for a state visit and meeting with Canadian Prime Minister John Diefenbaker (red/white); (2) another pin was for a trip to Bermuda in December 1961 for a meeting with British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan (blue/white); and (3) the final pin was for a trip to West Germany in June 1963 for meetings with German officials, a visit to the Berlin Wall, and a public address before 450,000 Berliners (black/white).

    (4) Presidential travel tag belonging to Toi Bachelder (which JFK trip is unknown). Ms. Bachelder served for 34 years on the White House secretarial staff, from President Roosevelt's administration through that of President Johnson.

    (5) A piece of the Berlin Wall, visited by President Kennedy June 26, 1963, after which he spoke before 450,000 West Berliners, famously stating, "As a free man, I take pride in the words Ich bin ein Berliner [I am a Berliner]." Collected for the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.

    (6) President Kennedy's speech to the Irish Parliament, 5" x 7.5", 29 pp, Dublin, June 1963. On June 28, 1963, during his European trip, President Kennedy addressed a Joint Session of the Irish Parliament. It was his "homecoming" to Ireland, the land of his ancestors, that touched him most personally. The government of Ireland published his speech in a handsome green volume.
