    Description

John Dillinger Wanted Posters. The Roaring Twenties and Great Depression spawned its share of gangsters and none were more notorious than John Dillinger. This lot includes two Wanted Posters dating from 1934. The first is an 8" x 8" placard from the U. S. Department of Justice showing Dillinger's fingerprints, mug shots, physical description, criminal record (murder, bank robbery) and the current charge - violation of the National Motor Vehicle Theft Act. The verso has a list of FBI agents and their contact phone numbers (accompanied by a COA from R&R). The second is a 9" x 16" poster dated June 23, 1934, offering combined rewards of $15,000 for the arrest of John Herbert Dillinger (toning and discoloration). Both posters are signed in type by J. Edgar Hoover. The FBI and agent Melvin Purvis caught up with Dillinger in Chicago and fatally shot him as he was exiting a viewing of Manhattan Melodrama.
