JOE JACKSON WIRE PHOTO. Of the scant few images of Joe Jackson available to our hobby, only a minority identify him with the White Sox. And of those that do remain, few convey the literal detail of his being. This picture, likely taken for media distribution, captures the incomparable hitter on a 6 3/8" x 8 1/2" photograph. The photo has some moderate surface damage toward the lower right along with a small imperfection to the right of the face. And for fullest accuracy an inconspicuous tack hole is evident in the upper left corner. The reverse, as is typical for wire photos, identifies him and his position as well as the notation "(Chicago Americans)." Also appearing on the reverse is an ominous script "9-1919." We should interpret this to mean "September- 1919." And so the question begs: Is this the last photo ever taken of an innocent Joe Jackson, or are there now the seeds of conspiracy hidden behind those eyes?
