JOE DIMAGGIO SOUVENIR LAMP. Though DiMaggio was the original Broadway Joe, he in fact, 'left his heart in San Francico.'  At some point during his successes in New York, he opened Joe DiMaggio's Restaurant on Jefferson Street near Fisherman's Wharf.  For reasons yet unclear, that eatery closed some time ago, and little now remains at the site.  In a more prosperous time, this lamp was available as an upscale restaurant concession.  It's an electrical contrivance fashioned with three sizeable sea shells - one serving as a base, the other two as a hinged pair enclosing a small bulb.  Dining ambiance would be greatly enhanced with this little joy that emits a translucent glow.  The somewhat dated cord suggests that this piece was made in the 1940's.  As such, we caution the reader that we cannot guarantee its electrical safety.  However, with bated curiosity, we discovered that not only is it fully functional, but we also report that it remains in overall EX/MT condition - the base lies perfectly flat and the hinge is as functional as new.  At the base is its identity, "Joe DiMaggio's."  Additional shipping cost may apply.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
