    First printed map of Detroit

    Jacques Nicolas Bellin: La Riviere du Detroit Depuis le Lac Sainte Claire jusqu'an Lac Erié Echelle de Deux Lieues Communes. 1764. The engraved map measures 12.5" x 8.25" (overall paper measures 17.5" x 12.5") and identifies the Detroit River, from Lake St. Clair to Lake Erie. Also identified are other rivers, farms, Indian villages, white settlements, and forts. Bodies of water and rivers have been hand colored. An insert map entitled Plan du Fort du Detroit appears near the center of the map, identifying the streets and buildings of Fort Detroit. Published in Bellin's Le Petit Atlas Maritime (Paris, 1764). Minor foxing. Hinged to a mat (18.5" x 14.5").

    Also included is another map entitled Plat of the City of Detroit as laid out by the Govr. and Judges. Overall size of 14.25" x 20.5". The map is certified and signed in print by John Farmer from Wayne County, Michigan Territory, on January 8, 1831. Minor foxing and dampstaining. Separation beginning at one fold.
