Huey P. Newton: An Iconic Poster from the Black Power Movement of the 1960s-1970s. Fantastic image of Newton (1942-1989) in Black Panther attire, sitting in a wicker chair with a rifle on one side and an African spear on the other. At bottom: "The racist dog policemen must withdraw immediately from our communities, cease their wanton murder and brutality and torture of black people, or face the wrath of the armed people," and "Black Panther Party for Self Defence / P.O. Box 8641 / Emeryville, California." This great poster has auction records of $5,200 and $16,000. and is considered one of the top radical movement posters of that era. The original owner acquired the poster in 1968 at the beginning of the Black Power Revolution while a student at San Jose State College--the same year her fellow students Tommy Smith and John Carlos won medals in the 200 meter race during the Mexico City Olympics and famously raised their fists during the award ceremony. October 15th of this year marked the 50th Anniversary of the Black Panther Party's 1966 founding by Newton and Bobby Seale. The poster is in excellent condition, with minor discoloration at bottom center from old tape reinforcement of a small tear. 22" x 33.5".

Update: The poster has been trimmed on the sides and top. The bottom tear is 6". There is a 1/2" tear at top center, also repaired with tape on verso.
