Hand Drawn Map of the Battle of Chancellorsville Drawn by a Confederate Corporal in the 37th North Carolina. 19.25" x 11.75", in pencil with a bit of blue wax crayon. Undated, but likely period based on the self-identification by the maker. The map illustrates the progress of the 37th North Carolina, giving a timeline and the positions held by the regiment throughout the battle. The maker, "Corporal Goode", marks the location where they rested "on the night of the [May] 1st", and draws the circuitous route they took on [May] 2nd prior to launching their attack; and includes the location of the Yankee camp. He also makes note of when and where the first breastworks were taken. He adds: "at this point we were shelled heavily about sunset & about dusk took position as indicate with about two companies on the left on the north side of the plank road." We were not able to identify the maker, nor whether or not he survived the war.

With flattened folds, possibly for mailing inside a letter. Light soiling and creasing.
