Group of (7) Sets of Southern Sheet Music. Music was an important component of the Southern cultural identity before, during, and after the Civil War. From the popular songs featured in minstrel shows, where white men in blackface would perform such rousing tunes as "Dixie" and "Old Dan Tucker," to the hymns and spirituals sung both in church and on the plantation, to songs used to inspire feelings of patriotism, the South treasured its flourishing and diverse musical culture. Several such songs are featured in this lot and include: George Linley, et al. Bonny Jean, a Ballad. Augusta: Blackmar & Bro., n. d. 4to, 6 pages. This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
