Graham County, Arizona: Declaration of Intention to Become a U.S. Citizen. Declaration of Intention form, 8.5" x 14", in which Samuel Lesinsky, of Graham County. Arizona Territory, declares his intention of becoming a U.S. citizen and thus renouncing his allegiance to "the Empire of Germany." The upper half of the document is signed by Lesinsky and by Edward D. Tuttle, clerk of the District Court of the 1st Judicial District of Graham County, on June 5, 1883. The bottom of the document bears the stamp of the 1st Judicial District Court. Lesinsky subsequently became part owner of the Clifton Longfellow Mine. The document highlights the process by which one became a citizen of the U.S. in the late 19th century. The document has three horizontal folds and shows weakness at the end of the folds and along part of the topmost fold. There are also small chips along the edges of the document. Overall, the document is in good condition.
