    Description

GOUDEY SPORT KINGS TY COBB. Traditionally card producers have assigned prominant celebrities to represent their card number one’s. That policy, of course, has become the bane of advanced hobbyists as we all seek to make order from chaos. Card number one is invariably maintained at the top of a card collection -- there, exposed to all of life’s menacing harm. Always looming were rubber bands, curious little fingers, household soot and occassionally, pancake syrup. Obviously well hidden from all those threats there has emerged this 1933 Goudey Sport Kings #1 Ty Cobb. This one has survived to earn a professional grade of PSA EX-MT 6. It is centered mildly low, and has light wear at the corners. Though we’re obliged to detail these qualifications, the card is very strong considering that it is ‘number one’ in a vintage issue. Of particular note however, this image of Cobb is virtually perfect in its register -- a finer clarity is not available. We make no apologies for this card; it is a robust EX-MT.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
