GEORGE ZUVERINK GAMEUSED HATS. He was a familiar figure on the mound during the decade of the ‘50’s. And though George is last on most alphabetical baseball lists, on a few occassions he appeared first on several performance lists. Here offered are three of George Zuverink’s gameused hats. For each of these, he has signed at the underside of the bill. These signatures (all about "7") are placed in black thin marker, and include the year corresponding to its game-use. Varying degrees of shrinkage in the leather sweatbands have mildly deformed these hats, but their cloth fabric and the very important team logos are unimpaired. All retain their original manufacturer’s tags as well as appropriate stampings in their sweatbands. The first, dated 1951, is a Wilson Cleveland Indian hat. A mild, unnatural bend in the bill has probably resulted from long-term storage. The second is a McAuliffe Detroit Tiger piece, dated 1954. A small break in the bill is evident from the underside only. And finally, from the workhorse period of his career, is his 1958 Baltimore Oriole hat. It too was made by McAuliffe, and with the exception of light wear on the bill, this hat presents very well. Also included with this collection is an unidentified St. Louis Cardinal hat. It was made by K M Pro Cap, and bears the number "10" (in black marker) under the bill. We’re confident that this was assigned, and game-worn, but it can’t be linked to Zuverink. This handsome group will certainly provide class to any display collection. LOA Knoll and Bushing/GAI, and Spence/ Grad DNA. (# This item may require additional shipping charges).
