George Washington: Two Pair of Furniture Pulls. We offer four identical furniture pulls depicting "General Washington." These measure approximately 2.5" x 3.5" and are manufactured of brass. They were meant to be attached to pieces of furniture, such as sideboards, chests of drawers, highboys, and desks. We believe they are made of brass which has darkened over the years. It is difficult to pinpoint the date of manufacture. We have seen curtain tie-backs with a similar design advertised in British hardware catalogs of the early 1790s. These likely date from then or perhaps a decade later. Given Washington's popularity, they no doubt were strong sellers in the American market. They are complete with bail handles and mounting screws and will polish-up quite nicely if the owner is so inclined.
