Gazette of the United States (Philadelphia, Pa.) July 21, 1792: New York Stock Exchange. 4 pp., 10" x 16". This newspaper contains a back page ad for "STOCK BROKERS OFFICE...LEONARD BLEECKER". Bleecker was one of the FOUNDERS of the NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE, when he signed the BUTTONWOOD AGREEMENT on May 17, 1792. This also contains news of the plan for the new Capitol building being accepted by the Commissioners of Public Buildings in Washington, DC. There are several ads for the sale of slaves. Lastly, there is a report using the phrase: "...A house divided against itself cannot stand..." (a very early use of this phrase that would be made famous in 1858 by ABRAHAM LINCOLN in his 'house divided' speech to the Republican Party).
