Galveston Bridge $1000 Bonds (Six). The six manuscript bonds, numbered 61 through 66, are on large pages (19.75" x 27.5"), each containing numerous interest coupons. All are dated from the 1860s and 1870s. Included on the page with each bond written in manuscript is the Texas act, dated January 27, 1860, which empowered Galveston officials and inhabitants "to issue Bonds for the construction of a Bridge from the Island of Galveston to the main land in aid of the 'Galveston Houston and Henderson Railroad.'" Some separations at folds on each page. Minor soiling.

Also included are four additional pages (approximately 8" x 13"). Two of these pages document the conveyance of the bonds to Liverpool, England. Two other pages (approximately 8" x 13") contain more interest coupons. All pages are bound in the top left corner by a blue ribbon, which is attached to paper seals on each page of the Liverpool documents.

The Galveston, Houston and Henderson Railroad Company was chartered on February 7, 1853, to build a rail system from Galveston through Houston to Henderson in east Texas. For a number of years the company was Galveston's only rail connection with the Texas railroad system centered at Houston. Although supported in Galveston and Houston, much of the early financing was provided by European investors. The original company was sold in 1860, and a new Galveston, Houston and Henderson was organized under the original charter. During the Civil War the railroad remained active, handling the traffic to and from the Confederate blockade runners reaching Galveston. In 1867 the bondholders of the original company pressed the railroad into receivership and fighting between the stockholders and bondholders forced the railroad to be sold under foreclosure on December 15, 1871.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
