From Narrative of the Expedition of an American Squadron to the China Seas and Japan, Performed in the Years 1852, 1853, and 1854 Under the Command of Commodore M. C. Perry, United States Navy, by Order of the Government of the United States, Volume II, Washington: Beverly Tucker, Senate Printer, 1856. A facsimile of the 1854 treaty with Japan that opened up the United States initial contact with Japan. The treaty, in Japanese kanji characters is 14 pages, printed back and front on 7 sheets measuring 9 inches x 11.5 inches. The paper has toned and there are a few pin-sized binding holes along the left margin, else it is in very good condition.
