    Description

Theodore M. Warner Army Group including letters, a newspaper, and discharge papers. Letters

This collection contains a group of eleven letters, mostly addressed to his mother, father, and sister. All letters are written between May 31, 1862, and August 23, 1862. The first six letters are addressed from "Camp Chase" near Columbus, Ohio, about which Mr. Warner says, "On one side of the camp is a secesh prison...On the other side of the camp is such a similar prison with the addition of an [sic] hospital." At the time, Warner was in training and his letters tell of such. Camp Chase served not only as a Union prison camp, but as a training camp for new recruits.

The second group of letters, which begin with one dated August 14, 1862, are all addressed from, "the Sececion [sic] town of Cumberland," located in Maryland. He begins by telling the tale of his regiment's journey from Columbus to Cumberland. The later letters are about his time in Cumberland.
