San Quentin Prison: Curious Presentation Key. If you were in the lock-up at San Quentin prison, what better gift could you receive than a key given to you by the warden? That's what this appears to be, although it seems a good-natured jest, rather than a serious attempt at a break-out. The 5.25" heavy metal key, apparently gold plated, is engraved on one side "To Girone from M. G. Aguirre Warden San Quentin Prison 1902." Two rats appear on the loop. The other side is engraved: "To Earl Aunt Gerrie". Research reveals Aguirre was warden of the prison from 1889 to 1903. There were apparently some charges leveled against him and the Governor related to mismanagement of prison funds. Both managed to avoid being placed under lock and key. We recommend that you "do a stretch" and buy this fun piece!
