    Description

    Pennsylvania Taverns: Group of Licensing Petitions, dating between 1783 and 1853. Numerous documents, most are in manuscript form, but some are partly-printed. Includes yearly petitions of tavern owners (houses of "publick entertainment") for operating licenses, some with attached clippings of contemporary newspaper notices. Most taverns appear to be located in Westmoreland County in southwestern Pennsylvania. Many are fragile with repairs.
