    Description

Old West Letter from Prescott's "Whiskey Row" with Apache Content. 8" x 10" letter on "D. C. Thorne 'Cabinet' [Saloon]" letterhead, Prescott, Arizona, June 28, 1883, 2 pages from Anthony Bloomfield to his sister Ella in Philadelphia. Sold with transmittal envelope (lacking stamp with restoration). He talks about a Odd Fellows convention in San Francisco, the very hot weather, an anticipated trip to Mexico, then continues: "General Crook has returned from his scout with the Apaches with about three hundred prisoners." The "Cabinet" saloon was established in 1874 by Dan Connor "D. C." Thorne, forming the nucleus of "Whiskey Row", along with the Palace, the Cock-Pit and the Eclipse. The contemporaneous discussion of Crook and the Apaches by a leading local businessman is important and desirable context.
