DescriptionLaw Enforcement: 1854 New York City Presentation Police Badge. 2.75" silvered white metal or nickel badge. The central portion has the Seal of New York City within a beaded circle and wreath border. It is captioned "Police". The rim on the reverse is engraved: "Thomas Farran Esq. Councilman 37th Dist. 1854". Light wear. We assume this was a "courtesy" badge given to city politicos that they could flash if caught speeding down Harlem Drive. An early, rare badge.
