    Description

    Brazos Iron Bridge Company: Eighteen Printed Receipts. These receipts (7.5" x 3.75"; Galveston) are for various amounts between $20 and $200. Most are endorsed on the verso, several by Sidney Sherman, a Texas soldier and entrepreneur. Each is stamped with a two-cent George Washington stamp in the upper left corner and dated April or July 1867.

    More Information:

    The Brazos Iron Bridge Company was organized in early 1867 to provide funding for a railway bridge to span the Brazos River. The bridge, which was to be used by the Buffalo Bayou, Brazos and Colorado Railway, was completed in July 1869. Following its completion, the bridge company was integrated into the railway company.
